Shinnston, WV - July 2, 2017 – Brandon Sheppard and Rocket1 Racing continued their season of success by winning races 13 and 14 of the season, and 8th win on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series (WoOCraftLMS). Their back to back victories were at Plymouth Speedway on June 29th, and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on July 1.
Rocket1 Racing, Brandon Sheppard and the Valvoline Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket Chassis XR1 #Rocket1 Ford Mustang headed to the Midwest to compete in a series of four races. The first race was at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joilet, IL. As the cars rolled on the track for the A-Main, heavy rain and lightning set in, making it unsafe for the fans. Officials decided to postpone the A-Main to October 13th, which is the next WoOCraftLMS event at the Dirt Oval at 66. Sheppard will start on the front row (2nd) of the A-Main.
Rocket1 Racing then traveled to Plymouth Speedway, a UMP Summer Nationals race the following night on June 29th. The staff ran the program in quick fashion. The A-main was on the track at 7:40 pm. Brandon started the blue Rocket1 car on the pole of the $5,000 to win event. At the drop of the green flag, Sheppard jumped out front and remained unchallenged until the final two laps. Fellow racer Scott Bloomquist began to pressure Sheppard for lead. That forced Brandon to start running different groves to repel Bloomquist and win by a photo finish.
“I’ve run the tour numerous times,” Sheppard said after winning a battle between former tour champions. “It definitely means a lot to me to come out here and get this win. I think I’ve got a win every year in the Summernationals since 2011, so it feels good to keep that streak going, for sure.”
“The lapped car was holding me up there a little bit,” Sheppard said. “I couldn’t really get going on the bottom like I needed to to get going down the straightaway. I was kind of waiting on the gas too much. I never seen (Bloomquist) out there and I knew as long as I hit that brown before he did that I could probably beat him to the line. He definitely made it tough on me."
The June 30th WoOCraftLMS event at Terre Haute Action Track was cancelled due to persistent rain.
The next event was at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on July 1st. The race was a co-sanctioned event by WoOCraftLMS and UMP Summer Nationals at the Midwest bullring. Sheppard went on to win his heat race and start 3rd in the A-main. That track position allowed him to take the lead on the first lap and never let it go. Never pressured, Brandon led all 50 laps en-route to his 8th WoOCraftLMS win of the season.
“We had a really good racecar… and we had a good rhythm goin’ once we got goin’,” said Sheppard. “This racetrack is awesome. I love coming here and it means a lot to get a win here at I-55. It’s been a while since I’ve been here but it’s definitely been a while since I got a win here.”
Brandon Sheppard and Rocket1 Racing have had a stellar 2017 season. In 39 starts, the team has 14 wins (35% win percentage) 30 top 5s, 34 top 10s and is leading the WoOCraftLMS by 184 points over 2nd place Tyler Erb.
