Brandon Sheppard scored an emotional win at Farmer City Raceway's Illini becoming a two time winner. Sheppard and the the Rocket1 Racing team finished a two week trip in the midwest with 2 wins, 3 top 5s and one top 10.
The Illini 100 is an event split into two events. A 25 lap A-main on Friday night, and the $15,000 to win, 75 lap event on Saturday. Persistent rainof Friday pushed the 25 lap event to Sunday, April 2.
Sheppard won from the pole of the 75 lap feature leading every lap of a caution free race. This marks the second time Sheppard has won the Illini 100. He won the event back in 2015 in his family owned equipment.
"Winning this race is really important to me. It's almost like a local track with my home and family so close. With me touring so much, I'm glad they got to see my race and especially win."
In the Sunday event Sheppard qualified tenth in his group and 5th in the heat race. His finish in the heat race caused him to run one of the last chance qualifier races. Brandon started first in last chance race one and finished first. That would start him 17th in the A-man. Sheppard & his Rocket1 team had a great run in the A-main. The Rocket1 car advanced 8 spots to the 9th position.
"Consistency is key while running points" stated Sheppard. "Josh's driving style is different than mine, so we have to learn what to change for me. It's a challenge but Mark and the Rocket1 team provide me with an excellent car every week."
So far this year the Rocket1 team has 18 starts, 6 wins, 12 top fives, 15 top tens. They're the first team on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models Series to win multiple wins this season. Their next scheduled events are with the Lucas Oil Late Model Series.
Brandon Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing team are currently first in World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models Series by 54 points over second place Chris Madden.
