Brandon Sheppard and Rocket1 Racing, the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series (WoOCraftLMS) winner at Fayetteville Motor Speedway returned to championship form with a 2nd place finish at the WoOCraftLMS First in Flight 100 at Fayetteville Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 12.
Number two was a consistent theme of the weekend for the Valvoline Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket Chassis XR1 #Rocket1.
Brandon's qualifying lap of 15.976 was 2nd fastest in his group and third fastest overall. He was one of five drivers who broke the previous track record of 16.005 seconds.
His qualifying effort put him on the pole of heat two, which he won in entertaining fashion. That victory earned him a spot in the $2,001 "The Big C Dash for Cash" on Friday night, in which he started 2nd.
Sticking with the theme of the weekend, Sheppard's 2nd place finish was the highest finishing WoOCraftLMS driver in the 10-lap dash which honored the late hall of fame car owner Carlton Lamm. The finishing order of the dash locked Brandon into the outside pole of the $25,001 to win, 100 lap WoOCraftLMS race the following night.
On a hot Saturday evening in which tire management and strategy played a big part, Sheppard finished 2nd in the 100 lap WoOCraftLMS event in which he took home $10,000
“All and all, it was a pretty good night. Second place, not the turn out we wanted but we’ll take it and congratulations to Jimmy and thanks for all of the fans for coming out.” said Sheppard.
