Shinnston, WV – April 30, 2018– The fifth annual Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway concluded on Saturday evening. Brandon Sheppard rallied from a DNF the previous night to finish 3rd in the Valvoline Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket Chassis XR1 #Rocket1 on the final night of competition at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
On Friday night, Sheppard timed in 2nd quick during qualifying and went on to win the 2nd heat race. The heat race win placed him 3rd on the starting grid for the Friday night 50-lap Craftsman Club Feature. On lap three #Rocket1 slowed due to a mechanical failure between turns one and two. He was running 4th at the time but was forced to retire from the race and finished 22nd.
Sheppard rebounded from his Friday night DNF at Smoky Mountain Speedway by winning the 1st heat race and starting on the pole of Saturday's 50-lap Craftsman Club Feature. His Rocket1 Racing crew of Danny White, Austin Hargrove, and Joel Rogers made the appropriate changes on Friday night to get Sheppard back on the podium on Saturday night with a 3rd place finish.
“Considering last night, we’re really happy with tonight. Dale and Chris place both have a lot of laps around this place and I’ve only been here a few times and to be able to run third to them guys feels pretty good. We were a little bit too snug there when the track rubbered-up but hats off to my guys for getting this thing turned around for us so we could make the race tonight.”
